The Grotta del Fico is a picturesque cave between Cala Biriola and Cala Goloritzé in the comune of Baunei
Open to the public in August 2003, the Grotta del Fico is counted among the most beautiful and largest caves in the whole of Sardinia.
The development of the cave so far has reached 1800 m, but some areas are still being explored.
The cave has an important value both in concretional and faunistic terms – in fact, just inside it Padre Furreddu, one of the founders of the speleology of the island, studied “The Monk Seal” for the first time, living for days and nights in close contact with the mammal.
The Cave opens up at 10 m above sea level, along the extraordinary limestone wall of the Gulf of Orosei. Simple walkways allow you to safely walk along the fossilised bed of an ancient river.
How to get there: by sea with boats departing daily in the summer from Arbatax or Santa Maria Navarrese
